From Meta to the Metaphysical—How A Psychic Kick-Started My Second Career

Since starting Akashic Record reading, I often get asked how I got into this work, and the truth is… it’s a pretty wild story.

I was (until pretty recently) a classic corporate girlie—practical, grounded, and climbing the ladder. I worked in branding and design for nearly 2 decades, including almost five years at Meta. But despite the external success, I never felt 100% seen or fulfilled.

The big shift…

That started to shift in 2022 during a weekend away in Temecula, CA, when my husband Jared half-jokingly suggested we see a psychic. After this woman nailed it on both the surface level and my deep psyche, she suggested that I had both healing capacities and psychic abilities. I was in shock, but everything else she had shared had been strikingly accurate...Sure, I had wanted to be a doctor (and even entered college as pre-med), but me? A healer? A psychic? Little old, logical, pragmatic, me? Her parting words to me were “You’ll have a spiritual transformation when you’re ready.” It was like a cork popped off my consciousness, and all of a sudden things just started to unfold.

So how did that lead to the Akashic Records?

After that first psychic reading, I dove into books, podcasts, articles—anything that could help me understand intuition and healing. In the book Real Magic by Dean Radin, I was introduced to the concept of the Akasha: the 5th element  (‘Ether’) that is the fabric of the universe itself.

I soon learned that our souls’ histories are stored in this incredible energy, and I knew I had to dive in.

After months of doubt and procrastination, I finally signed up for a class and tried it…and it worked instantly. That led to hundreds of hours of reading the records—first on myself, then with friends, and eventually as a certified Akashic Record Reader.

Here are just a few moments that have taken my breath away:

  • I pleaded for help from my [passed on] grandmothers and a person uniquely suited to help me reached out the next day.

  • I asked my departed friend Joe to play a song by the band ‘Air’ on the radio—and heard it within 48 hours.

  • A high-paying freelance gig appeared within 24 hours of me signaling to the universe that I was ready for work.

  • I improved chronic shoulder pain by discovering its root in a past life and practicing energy healing on myself.

  • I followed a strong intuition to reach out to a new contact, and we became fast friends, then business partners.

  • When my client asked if she had a guardian angel, I heard her grandmother’s name whispered in my ear, and she confirmed it.

Each of these bullets is its own mind-blowing story, and I plan to start sharing more of them (sign up here to get them!).

What I’m up to now:

I left my corporate job at the end of 2024 to pursue Akashic Record Reading full time. This work continues to be surprising, humbling, and deeply moving.

I’ve co-created a new healing modality called the Akashic Therapy Method with a gifted therapist named Jori Adler (Flow House Therapy). In our process, therapy is supported with insights from Akashic Record Readings, and the Readings are supported with the processing and integration of therapy. If you live in California, feel free to ask if this could be for you.

I co-host a free monthly New Moon circle for women in Los Angeles with dear friend and Executive Coach Danya Shults. It’s a space for reflection, connection, and intention-setting. (Reach out if you're local!)

And occasionally, I still take on freelance branding projects. Most recently, I got the pleasure of leading a workshop in Walt Disney’s old apartment at Disneyland. Core memory, created. At first I thought I had to leave the ‘old me’ to embrace the new, but as it turns out, I contain multitudes. You do too!

A few truths this path has taught me (so far…)

This soul-aligned work has changed how I understand…everything. Life. Relationships. Psychology. Purpose. Energy. Even time. Here is some of what I’m learning:

  • Rebalance intellect and intuition. Being “smart” and being “wise” are not always the same.

  • Surrender. Control creates tension. Resolution comes when you loosen your grip, especially around outcomes.

  • Energy matters. How you do things (from fear? from enthusiasm or love?) matters as much or more than what you are doing.

  • Healing is a process. Healing is cyclical, you’re never really “done,” but the further you go, the closer you get to your essence.

  • Inner authority over gurus. While external guidance is useful, we are the ultimate sovereigns of our lives. Listen for the inner knowing and let it lead.

Ok…so what’s next?

For right now, I’m trying to be brave and share more often. My wise friend (and kickass Pilates trainer) Lauren said something that stuck with me—that talking about the grey area, the doubt, and the processing that this spiritual awakening has brought is valuable information, and that it may help others feel a little less alone.

With love,

Amanda
